3 Pieces for Violin and Piano (transcribed by Arthur Hartmann) Score and part
In the first decade of the twentieth century, there were many outstanding violinists touring around the world with many of them bringing their own encore arrangements to play in addition to their main programme. One of these was the American violinist, Arthur Hartmann who was a close friend of Debussy amongst others. In common with others, he bought and was given new pieces which he took back home and then reworked as pieces for himself to perform. One of the other composers that encountered Hartmann was the Ukrainian, Reinhold Glière who resided in Germany for several years up to 1908.
The origins of these three pieces, Romance, Melodie and Mazurka is unclear, but they were all published in Hartmann's transcriptions by 1916. They have been out of print for at least 50 years. This new edition corrects a few erros in the original publications.
