From Die Kathrin Op.28. Score and part
Korngold's last opera was Die Kathrin. Composed during years of upheaval it fared poorly when performed with audiences and critics regarding it as 'not modern enough'. The opera disappeared for close on fifty years and is only recently starting to come to public attention again. It contains the type of lush and delightful music Korngold was writing for Hollywood rather than the theatre. One of the highlights is Kathrin's Letter Song in Act 1 where under pressure from friends she writes to her lover to tell him she will never see him again.
