Luise Le Beau was a female German composer and pianist active towards the end of the 19th century. Like many other women both before and after her, she found it difficult to compete in a male dominated profession which had little interests allowing women to participate. Eventually, she abandoned her professional career around 1903, but things had been building towards that point for a while beforehand. The Second Violin Sonata was written in 1898, but was never published or performed during her lifetime. In fact there is no record of any publication or performance of this major work to be found. It is a substantial work in four movements and shows considerable skill in the writing for both instruments in addition to a strong command of structure and direction. This is its first publication. The piece last around 24 minutes.
