Pejačević, Dora: Two Pieces for Violin and Piano

Dora Pejačević was a remarkable Croatian musician who tragically died far too young during childbirth.  Although born into nobility, she was socially highly aware and served as a nurse during the Great War.  She started out as a romantic composer before starting to experiement with modernism and expressionism in the years before her death.  Her music has a refreshing directness as can be found in her Elegie written in 1913.  The Romance is an earlier piece, shorter and more romantic period in nature.
