Mykhailo Verbytskyi was almost certainly the first professional composer in Ukrainian music.  He wrote 12 operas, at least 12 symphonies, (overtures) and over 70 religious pieces.  These two Polonaises date from 1849 and were initilly used as interval music for his opera Verkhovyntsy.  This is the first time they have been published in a piano reduction format.
