Franz Schubert Erlkönig for high voice and orchestra (orch. Berlioz) (G minor) Full Score
Schubert composed Erlkönig when he was 18 years old setting Goethe's poem of the same name. It is a narrative poem with four different characters which relates the story of a ghostly, but deadly Erl King pursuit of a young sick boy. After Schubert's death, the song was orchestrated by Berlioz in a version which brings the terror of a night chase to life.
This new edition is taken from the parts and score originally published in 1860 by Leguix. It was sadly typical of the period. Mistakes and omissions are in every part and there are also many differences between the parts in articulations, dynamics and their positioning. This new edition has restored the missing dynamics and articulations and made them consistent between the parts.
