Ysaye's virtuoso adaptation of Saint-Seans's Etude has rightly become a favourite amongst aspiring violins, yet since its initial publication, the piece has been plagued by errors and inconsistencies within the version editions availble. There were two editions of the piano reduction within a few years and two versions of the solo part to go with them. The full score of the orchestral version was published later still after the first performance and had further changes which were never put into the piano reductions. Unfortunately, a number of errors in the solo part not found elsewhere appeared in the published full score. Additional alterations by Ysaye were to be found in the set of orchestral parts that were prepared for the premiere. Only some of these changes found their way into the full score.
This new edition of the full score, the solo part and the piano reduction and orchestral parts brings all these changes together for the first time and corodinates them across all formats. It includes a short introductory esay with photographs explaining the differences and inconsistencies between previous editions
The piano reduction may be found under FMP 71092501 and the orchestral parts at FMP 11082501.
